Bonnie W Allen , Age 73

March 10, 1952 -- October 17, 2025

Bonnie W. Allen of Louisville passed into eternal peace on October 17th following a six-month battle with glioblastoma.

Bonnie was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1952 and moved with her family to Bedford, Indiana, in 1955. There she attended Shawswick High School where she was the yearbook editor and drum major. She attended David Lipscomb University where she received her degree in elementary education. She earned her Master of Education from Indiana University Southeast.

Bonnie was married to J. Harvey Allen at Southland Christian Church in Bedford on June 22, 1974. They have two sons, Tad and Russ Allen (Clancy). Bonnie had three grandchildren, Lucy and Quinn Moran and Elias Russell Allen.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph R. and Louise (Hord) Wells, her brother, David Kit Wells, and an infant grandson, Ezra James Allen.

Bonnie was a career elementary school teacher. She taught at Portland Elementary, St. John’s Academy, Watterson Elementary and Bates Elementary before accepting a position teaching sixth grade at Carter Traditional Elementary School. She moved with the sixth grade to Traditional Middle School where she remained until the birth of her elder son.  While Tad and Russ were young, she taught part time at St. Matthews Baptist Pre-School. When she returned to JCPS, she taught at Trunnell Elementary and completed her career at Wilder Elementary. She was a natural teacher and touched the lives of thousands of students.

Bonnie was a member of Beargrass Christian Church where she served as the volunteer director of the Melody Makers (3- to 6-year-olds) for many years. She played in the handbell choir, sang alto in the Beargrass Choir, and chaperoned many high school choir tours.

Bonnie liked to sample all that life had to offer. She crewed sailboats at the Louisville Sailing Club, judged Spring Run cross country horse events, and rode in Richard Petty’s NASCAR experience in Indy. She played co-ed softball and volleyball, attended Wimbledon and Cincy tennis events, and enjoyed the Extreme Sandbox construction equipment experience, to name a few.

She played duplicate bridge monthly with her dearest friends and vacationed with them in the Caribbean every spring.

There will be celebration of her life on Sunday, October 26th, in Louisville.
